My Approach
Counselling - My Approach

I am an experienced counsellor who works with clients on a wide range of personal issues including anxiety, stress, depression, loss, bereavement, panic and anxiety attacks, anger management, eating disorders, abuse, loss of self esteem and self confidence, bullying, relationship issues and dealing with change.
There are many different types of recognised counselling and therapy. Rather than just adhere to one specific approach, I believe it is important to find the right therapy for each client. I offer different counselling strategies including Cognitive Behavioual Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Counselling and Solution Focussed Therapy.
Some of these therapies such as CBT can be quite structured in approach and may be particularly helpful to clients facing a very specific problem such as anger management issues.
Other types of therapy such as psychodynamic counslling provide a more reflective approach which will encourage clients to consider repeating patterns in their life. This type of therapy can prove useful to clients where there may be some deep rooted issues to work through.
An important part of my work is an initial meeting with clients to talk about these techniques and to consider which is likely to best fit with the needs of each individual client. That is an informal discussion which also allows clients an opportunity to meet with me and experience being in the room - befoe deciding whether to go ahead with counselling
I do not charge a fee for that first meeting - and ongoing fees are negotiable and will take into account client circumstances and the nature of the counselling work to be understaken . I work with clients for either a fixed number of sessions or on an open ended basis and the likely duration of the work is also something that can be discussed during that initial meeting.
